About New Start Slimming Clinic
New Start Slimming Clinic is a weight loss clinic which is registered by the governing body the Care Quality Commission. Our fully qualified GMC doctors have over 30 years’ combined experience in obesity and weight-loss. Our registered clinic manager Cath Locker has previously worked as a CQC registered Manager for 14 years working in this sector, helping thousands of patients to lose weight.

What can you expect on your first visit?
Our doctors will decide what the best treatment is for you. To do this they will firstly assess your medical history then check your height and weight which will help them to establish your BMI. Your blood pressure reading will also be taken to build a bespoke assessment.
Providing their findings are that you fit the criteria you will be advised on which medication is suitable for you. You will be advised on healthy eating and exercise.
What types of medication do we prescribe
We have several different types of prescription medication which are known as appetite suppressants. Most of these are in an oral tablet form and are to be taken daily. We also prescribe Pre-filled Pen’s which are to be injected weekly. A list and cost of each type of prescription medication is detailed in the next frequently asked question section.
How much does it cost?
Costs at February 2024 are:
Phentermine – £24 per week or £96 per 4 weeks
Diethylpropion – £24 per week or £96 per 4weeks
Rybelsus – £174.99 per 4 weeks
Ozempic Pre-filled Pen – £174.99 per 4 weeks
Wegovy Pre-filled pen 0.25mg to 1.00mg – £174.99 per 4 weeks
Wegovy Pre-filled pen 1.7mg to 2.4mg – TBC
Do I have a follow up appointment?
You will be offered a follow up appointment after your initial consultation for the following week to see how well you have tolerated the medication and will be weighed and have your blood pressure re-checked. Providing you have tolerated well and your blood pressure is normal you will be advised to carry on with further treatment, the doctor may prescribe a higher dose.
Is the treatment safe?
Our medication is a safe and effective weight loss medication that can only be prescribed by a qualified doctor and a CQC registered Clinic.
Are there any side effects with the medication?
As with any prescribed medication there is a risk of a side effect, most patients tolerate them with little or no side effects however you will be given an information sheet listing all side effects. The most common side effects are having a dry mouth and they can affect your sleep. This usually subsides in time.
What is BMI?
To meet the requirements for treatment your BMI (Body mass index) must be 30 or 27 with a co-morbidity factor.
Does the medication work?
Yes – Our qualified Doctors will only prescribe your medication that is safe and effective for you.
What are the risks of obesity?
If you are overweight you run the risks of type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, strokes or even types of Cancer. It can also contribute to depression and low self-esteem.
What is the expected weight-loss?
We would expect you to lose 5 to 15% of your body weight in 12 weeks.
